About Barbara Massey - Counseling in Medford, Oregon

barbara2.jpgBarbara Massey M.A., Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, specializes in helping build caring communication and connection for couples and individuals. In the Rogue Valley since 1998,  she uses relationship counseling approaches with a focus on communication skills to bring joy in relationships where there has been a break in trust, stress from chronic illness, emotional distance due to depression or parenting difficulties. Barbara uses research on techniques that work for couples and families to save time, money and frustration by starting with “what works” for your benefit.

Barbara is passionate about helping a variety of individuals and couples, especially those with a faith perspective who are often the most disillusioned, transform their relationships. Past spiritual hurt and confusion can impact relationships so Barbara supports healthy faith beliefs to reduce unnecessary guilt and pain.

Married since 1988, Barbara is a founder of ParkPlace Counseling Center in Medford and Ashland, Oregon. She was a clinical director at Samaritan Counseling Center in Medford, Grants Pass, and Ashland, Oregon. Samaritan Counseling Center of Southern Oregon offered professional, faith-based psychotherapy to those that desired that option.

Barbara has spoken at churches and universities and held seminars and groups on communication topics in relationships for over 15 years. She is an Oregon Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist #TO377. Her M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy is from Azusa Pacific University in California. She trained as a lay counselor at First Presbyterian Church of Berkeley and a Yolkfellow small group leader in the '80's. She has lead small groups with Infertility issues, a church support group and was Small Group Coordinator for a Presbyterian Church.

Her memberships include: American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists and the Christian Association of Psychological Studies.

Her training includes Advanced Training in Gottman Couples Therapy, AAMFT Depression Treatment with Michael Yapko, Intensive Therapy Training and Women In Connection at the Jean Baker Miller Training Institute. Barbara holds a Certificate in Training and Development from UC Santa Cruz.

"I highly recommend Barbara Massey as an exceptional therapist and counselor. I have known her for more than 20 years and can readily vouch for her professionalism, integrity, expertise, and sensitivity."
