      About Barbara Massey

Barbara Massey M.A., Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, specializes in helping build caring communication and connection for couples and individuals. In the Rogue Valley since 1998,  she uses relationship counseling approaches with a focus on communication skills to bring joy in relationships where there has been a break in trust, stress or emotional distance. Barbara uses research-based techniques that work for individuals, couples and families to save time, money and frustration.

Anxiety, depression and other complicating factors influence relationships and these are addressed as well.

Barbara is passionate about helping a wide variety of individuals and couples, especially those with a faith perspective who are often the most disillusioned, transform their relationships and connect. Past spiritual hurt and confusion can impact relationships so Barbara supports healthy faith beliefs to reduce unnecessary guilt and pain.

Barbara was a founder of ParkPlace Counseling Center in Medford and Ashland, Oregon. She was a Clinical Director at Samaritan Counseling Center in Medford, Grants Pass, and Ashland, Oregon. Barbara has been a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) with competency in assessment, diagnosis and treatment planning since 1998.

Barbara has spoken at churches and universities and held seminars and groups on communication topics in relationships for over 15 years. She is an Oregon Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist #TO377. Her M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy is from Azusa Pacific University in California. She has led small groups with Infertility issues, a church support group and was a Small Group Coordinator for a Presbyterian Church.

Her memberships include the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, Oregon Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, and the Christian Association of Psychological Studies. As a Prepare/Enrich facilitator she has conducted sessions for couples who are getting married or wish to expand their marital skills.

Her training includes Advanced Marriage Training with the Gottman Institute, Couples Training with Ellen Bader, AAMFT Depression Treatment with Michael Yapko PhD, Intensive Therapy Training and Women In Connection at the Jean Baker Miller Training Institute. Barbara holds a Certificate in Training and Development from UC Santa Cruz.

Barbara's ongoing education includes workshops, conferences and readings in the far-ranging aspects of individual and relational health including areas of neuropsychology, attachment, trauma, infidelity, sexuality, specialized anxiety issues and ethics.

Married over 25 years to Steve Massey. Barbara enjoys the connections between music and therapy.
